Folding to Advance at the Final Table At final tables in online poker tournaments, doing nothing is sometimes your best tactic. One should fold most poker online hands and let other players duel to the death. By refraining from play and doing nothing you can advance into a higher place. This point was painfully driven home to yours truly at a recent final table. With seven players left, there were two huge stacks and two small ones. During a ten-minute break took place to color up chips, I left the table, gabbed with some other players and grabbed some water. That ten minutes broke my focus. Returning as big blind, which was about 25 percent of my medium stack, I looked down at pocket Jacks. Because the blinds had jumped to a new high level, everyone folded around to the small blind, who was also the biggest stack. The small blind put yours truly all-in. And here is the mistake I made – without thinking it through — I called. This was a huge error because the player two seats to my left could not even cover the blind and the other small stack would be blinded out to before blinds returned to me. Most likely those two players would be eliminated and I would have automatically advanced two more places and collected bigger prize money. Unfortunately, the small blind turned over pocket Kings, my Jacks were cracked and my tournament done. Always stay focused on short stacks and blind levels at a final poker online table, and keep in mind how folding — even monster hands — can automatically advance you further into the money.
